A headache is mild to severe pain in one or more parts of the head.  Headaches vary in severity and are often described as pounding or throbbing pain. They can last a few  hours to weeks and usually occur several times a month to every day.   Associated  symptoms are sensitivity to light, noise, or odors; nausea or vomiting; loss of appetite; and stomach upset or abdominal pain.   With headaches, it is always important to evaluate the head, neck, sinuses and ears.  Inflammation, deformity and or blockage of energy of these can result in headaches.

Acupuncture, cupping, medical massage (tuina) and herbs  have been used to relieve headaches as well as their underlying causes for thousands of years. Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) does not recognize headaches as one particular syndrome. Instead, it aims to treat the specific symptoms that are unique to each individual.
