Acupuncture

Acupuncture is an effective form of health care that has evolved into a complete and holistic medical system.  Practitioners of acupuncture and Chinese medicine have used this noninvasive medical system to help millions of people get well and stay healthy.  Angie will place fine, individually packaged sterile needles at specific acupoints on the body.  This activates the body’s Qi (pronounced “chee”) and promotes natural healing by enhancing white blood cells, natural pain killers, immunity and physical and emotional health.  It is a safe, practically painless and effective way to treat a wide variety of health concerns.

What can affect Qi?

Many things influence the quality, quantity and balance of Qi.  Physical and emotional trauma, stress, lack of exercise, overexertion, seasonal changes, diet, accidents or excessive activity can lead to a blockage or imbalance of Qi.  Normally, when this imbalance occurs, the body naturally bounces back, returning to a balanced state of health and well-being. When the disruption to Qi is prolonged or is excessive, or if the body is in a weakened state, then illness, pain or disease can set in.

Acupuncture Needles

Finner than a hair

Acupuncture needles are typically not much thicker than a hair and the needle insertion is practically painless. Most people experience a variety of different sensations such as numbness, tingling, heaviness, warmth, and or a sensation going up or down the body.  Most people find acupuncture extremely relaxing and fall asleep during the treatment. Acupuncture is safe when preformed by a completely trained, licensed professional.   The needles are individually packaged, sterile and disposed of after one use.

Acupuncture and Your Health

Acupuncture takes a holistic or whole-body approach to health.  This means Angie will take into account your whole self, not just symptoms, in order to get to the root of your health concerns.  Getting the chance to really discus your health concerns and Angie really listen to you, may be new to you.  Think of it as your opportunity to form a partnership for better health.

Acupuncture First Visit

First visits generally last from sixty to ninety minutes.  Angie will spend time getting to know you and your health concerns. You may be asked a wide range of questions about your pain level, history, symptoms, eating, sleep habits, emotional states and anything that may offer insight into your health. She will also employ diagnostic tools that are unique to acupuncture such as a tongue and pulse diagnosis.  Angie will concentrate on acupuncture points related to specific history,  based on your unique symptoms and health concerns.

Your Role in the Healing Process

Your actions are a key component of your treatment plan. Focusing on your health and committing to a healthy lifestyle are the best steps you can take for your well-being.

Angie may include other related therapies in your treatment plan, such as cupping and nutrition which are another important aspect of acupuncture. It is important to understand and follow Angie’s directions in order to get the most benefit from these treatments.

Even after your symptoms are resolved, Angie can assist you in maintaining your health, and possibly prevent future imbalances. The more you incorporate acupuncture and nutrition into your life, the more you will learn to nurture your body, mind and spirit.

Getting the Most from Your Acupuncture Treatment

For the best treatment results, keep a few things in mind.

  • Please show up on time
  • Eat something before your visit
  • Wear loose, comfortable clothes
  • Be sure to discuss any questions or concerns with Angie
  • Get plenty of rest
  • Keep all of your appointments, as each visit builds upon the previous ones.
  • Drink plenty of water

How many treatments will I need?

Treatment frequency and number of treatments needed depend on a variety of factors; you constitution, the severity and duration of the problem and the quality and quantity of your Qi.  Some people experience immediate relief; others may take months or even years to achieve results. Chronic conditions usually take longer to resolve than acute ones. Plan on a minimum of a month to see significant changes. Angie may suggest one to two treatments per week, or monthly visits for health maintenance and seasonal “tune-ups”.

How Safe is Acupuncture?

Acupuncture is extremely safe. It is an all-natural, drug-free therapy, yielding no negative side effects, just feelings of relaxation and well being. There is little danger of infection from acupuncture needles because they are sterile and individually packaged, used once and then discarded.

Is Acupuncture Safe for Children?

Yes. In some instances children actually respond more quickly than adults.  If your child has an aversion to needles, Angie may massage the acupuncture points, this is called Acupressure.  Cupping is also a good therapy for children.
