Bell’s Palsy
Bell’s Palsy occurs when the facial nerve (7th cranial nerve) that controls facial muscles on one side of the face becomes swollen or inflamed. The face feels stiff, inflamed and half of the face appears to droop. The smile is one-sided and one eye resists closing. Bell’s Palsy can affect anyone, but rarely affects people under the age of 15 or over the age of 60.
For most people, symptoms improve within a few weeks or months with complete recovery in three to six months. Some people will experience a recurrence of Bell’s Palsy, sometimes on the other side of the face. A small number of people continue to have some Bell’s Palsy signs and symptoms for life.
Acupuncture treat Bell’s Palsy
Acupuncture is extremely effective in treating Bell’s Palsy. Acupuncture promotes the white blood cells to go to these areas to help you heal. Treatment frequency and number of treatments needed depend on a variety of factors; the severity and duration of the symptoms and the quality and quantity of your Qi. Some people experience immediate relief; others may take weeks or even months to achieve results. Angie may suggest one or two treatments per week, or monthly visits for health maintenance and seasonal “tune-ups”.
